Fluted concrete walls and full store installation

Fashion boutique · Americas

Boutique storefront framed by fluted concrete panels, with the shutter half raised

Sector: Fashion retail: a permanent boutique inside a department store

Location: Americas

CAMYS role: On-site installation as installation partner: the metal substructure, concrete panels and most of the store fixtures

Time on site: 40 days

The project

A new permanent boutique for an international fashion brand, built inside a department store in the Americas. Fluted concrete panels wrap the storefront and continue inside the store. The interior is a sequence of natural-stone display tables and ledges, back-lit onyx shelving, wood-panelled and green-glazed wall displays, black-glass showcases and a large ceiling lightbox over each area.

What we did

As installation partner, CAMYS installed on site:
• Metal substructure for the fluted concrete panels.
• Fluted concrete panels, outside and inside: over 100 lightweight fluted concrete panels on a honeycomb backing, hung on Z-clips and wall rails, with continuous reveals and metal trims.
• Most of the store fixtures: stone display tables and wall ledges, back-lit onyx shelving, display niches and shelving, mirror and black-glass wall panels and showcases, cash and wrap desks, counters and display tables.

The challenge

• Precision on a textured surface. Fluted concrete leaves nowhere to hide: every panel had to line up flute-to-flute and joint-to-joint across the storefront and the interior walls, with straight, even reveals.
• A façade system, not just cladding. The panels hang on a clip-and-rail system, so rail levels and panel sequence had to be right before the first panel went up. Some panels were cut on site around openings, and one wall section was designed to open for access.
• Heavy, finished materials in a tight sequence. Stone tables and ledges, onyx and glass had to be placed and aligned on finished floors without damage, alongside the other trades.
• Working inside a live department store, behind a site barricade, to a fixed handover date.

How we solved it

• Laser-levelled rail lines and a set panel sequence for each wall, so flutes and joints ran continuously.

• Joints and finished surfaces were protected throughout installation, then completed with the metal reveal trims.

• We handled both the façade system and the fixtures for 40 days, so there was a single point of responsibility on site through to handover.

Result

A finished boutique where concrete, stone, glass and light read as one precise, continuous interior, handed over ready for opening.
